Blood Agencies Urge Rockland Residents To Make Donations

Assemblyman James Skoufis, D-Woodbury, is encouraging community members to donate blood and help save lives this winter.

“Making a blood or platelet donation can mean the difference between life and death for patients in our community and across the nation,” said Skoufis. “By donating to the Red Cross or Community Blood Services, we can do our part to raise awareness and help prevent life-threatening blood shortages this year.”

During winter months, blood drive attendance drops significantly as a result of inclement weather and seasonal illnesses, making it one of the most difficult times of year to collect an adequate supply.

Making a donation is an easy way to combat the shortage and give back to the community, noted Skoufis. Eligible donors of all blood types are needed to help meet patient needs. Individuals at least 17 years of age, 110 pounds and in good health may qualify to donate.
