A lifelong West Nyack resident who devoted much of his time to the preservation of the town, Dahm was also president of the Heritage of West Nyack, said lohud.com.

He spent countless hours educating not only the public, but government officials as well, on the historic sites in the area. Dahm also organized clean-ups of local treasures that had fallen into disrepair, added lohud.com.

The Historical Society of Rockland County told lohud.com that Dahm was "tireless" and "invaluable," and said  that he was instrumental in revitalizing West Nyack.

Dahm was born in Tappan and attended West Nyack Elementary School and was in the first graduating class of Clarkstown North High School. He graduated from Clarkson University and Harvard Business School.

He married Arlene Lindstrom in 1961.

Dahm, who also served on the Clarkstown school boards, worked in industrial real estate development and management, and operated a fiber-optic network and telecommunications company, according to information posted by the Sorce Funeral Home.

In 1985, he received a presidential citation for outstanding personal achievement in advancement of federal employment programs, said lohud.com.

Dahm, who was a captain in the Navy, was a member of numerous organizations, including the Rockland County Fair Committee, Greater Rockland Economic Development Corp., Nyack Hospital Corp., West Nyack Swim Club, Cooperative Extension Association of Rockland County and the United Way, said lohud.com.

In addition to his wife, he  is survived by three daughters Carolyn Mulry, Kristine Kenez and Kathryn Girardin; five grandchildren; and his sister, Lois Dahm.
