Nyack's Hot Bagels Snags Position As A Rockland DVlicious Bagel Finalist

CENTRAL NYACK, N.Y. -- It’s impossible to live here and not have a bagel opinion. The New York area, as everyone knows, is the bagel capital of the world. And yes, it’s worth waiting in line on a Sunday morning to get one of these doughy wonders fresh out of the oven. Toasting, as a bagel purist knows, is not necessary when you buy the very best.

We asked for your favorites and now have three contestants in the running. Each is being profiled this week as part of our ongoing DVlicious contest. Here’s the lowdown on one who made the cut.

What Makes Them Bagelicious: People can't help but notice that nostalgic feeling when the bite into a Nyack Hot Bagels bagel. That because the bagels are made the same way Jewish immigrants hand-rolled them a century ago.

"You just can't duplicate a hand-rolled bagel," said Owner Chris Kamvosoulis. His father and uncle started the deli in 1995 and have never stopped hand-rolling the 13 varieties they sell. "You can tell a hand-rolled bagel by its stretch marks," he said.

Crazy Flavors: Expect the traditional. "We don't have chocolate or cheddar cheese bagels," he said. "We keep it classic."
