Carousel's Elvis Cake has been named a "Favorite Thing" by Oprah Winfrey's "O Magazine," which hit newstands Wednesday, Nov. 11.
The cake is part of the company's "Drizzle line" and was created by Head Baker Agnes Tuliszewska.
"Elvis loved peanut butter, bananas and chocolate so this cake represents a mixture of all of those flavors " said Carousel Cake Owner Nancy Finkelstein. The vanilla cake is filled with banana custard and topped with peanut butter buttercream, a layer of chocolate ganache and a peanut butter sauce drizzle.
Finkelstein said all cakes at Carousel are still mixed by hand and "made with love" by employees who, for the most part, have been with the company for many years. "Our cakes taste like you made them yourself," she said.
Many employees have been with Carousel for years -- the business itself is 35-years-old and run by Finkelstein, her husband, David, and her brother Howie Lefkowitz.
Despite it's age, Finkelstein said they work hard to stay current and innovative. To that end, she hinted that gluten-free baked goods (i.e. cupcakes) may be in the company's future.
Carousel Cakes has a wholesale business, a retail business, an online business, and three cupcake stores. At Thanksgiving, it sells from 15,000 to 20,000 pies among all of its divisions. This past year alone it sold one million cupcakes.
