Martio's Pizza Parlour, Nanuet
What Makes It Good: The Old World ambiance and commitment to quality pizza. The family-run eatery, in business since 1958, is located in a historic building that once housed the area's library, barbershop, and grocery store and features decor collected from around the world. There's an actual station light pole from Grand Central Station (circa early 20th Century), a ticket booth from a local historic theater, and Rockland County's first wood-burning custom-built brick oven imported from Italy.
Pizzas are baked in the brick oven until the pies are crisp, aromatic and slightly charred from the sweet burning wood. Recipes are family made and inspired, and have been passed down from generation to generation.
