Kim Cross, Executive Director of Nyack Center and Jenny Mirmelstein, Marketing & PR Manager for The Byne Group sat on a conversation panel, which was moderated by Ann Byne, Principal of The Byne Group. The event drew thirty attendees who, ranged from millennials to septuagenarians. The panel discussion focused on different social media outlets and how small to medium sized businesses can better market themselves.
"This Women's Leadership Council is a great group; and this educational session has helped bridge the generational gap and showed professionals how to manage changes within their business." said Joan Neumann, VP Administration for the RBA.
In lieu of traditional elevator pitches, the group introduced themselves via hashtags, which guests felt was a fun way to network in the digital parlance. The discussion continued, and included a crash course on LinkedIn, tips on managing business and personal FB pages and uncovering insightful social media page analytics.
"So many people think of LinkedIn as a job board, but in reality it is an amazing place for business-to-business marketing to occur," said Mirmelstein, who spoke on the topic. "There are a lot of ways to share content and show yourself as a thought leader and expert."
The panelists also touted social media as a great equalizer for small businesses. "The power of social media is that a small firm can have an impact in a way they never had before," said Byne. "We felt people were nervous about approaching it, which is why we wanted to provide insight on the topic."
In the end, guests walked away armed with the new knowledge to take on the digital marketing world. “I thought the event yesterday morning was fantastic, it was so helpful to gather insight regarding the different platforms and how to use them.” said attendee Julie Wendtholt.
