Chef Constantine Kalandranis will introduce PopoJito, his new gluten-free Mexican/Mediterraenean fast casual eatery, in Scarsdale in mid-October (think around Oct. 16).
The name comes from the merging of the Greek word "Popo" (wow)and Spanish word "Jito" (beautiful).
Like Kalandranis's other eateries, the new 30-seat restaurant will offer fresh, Mediterranean-inspired dishes using locally-sourced proteins, seasonal vegetables, and classic flavor elements like smooth tahini and brightness citrus.
The twist with PopoJito comes in the form of Mexican-inspired dish structuring, using freshly made corn-based tacos and tortillas to encase an array of grilled, cured or roasted proteins, along with chunks of lemony vegetable salads.
There will also be a tequila bar along with wine and beer.
Convenience is key. Given the eatery's close proximity to the Scarsdale train station, Kalandranis aims to offer commuters piping hot food delivered directly to the train platform or other destination with online order placement.
For those who choose to dine-in, PopoJito will be designed to offer a welcoming atmosphere that allows diners to relax and linger over their food. A retail section with branded PopoJito items will be featured inside the restaurant.
Initial hours will be 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week; lunch service will eventually be offered.
