New City's Avellino Esthetics Celebrates 10 Years Of Business

NEW CITY, N.Y. -- Rachelle Covino's spa, Avellino Esthetics, turns 10 this year and the New City resident said she's still just as excited about skincare as she was when she first started.

"Loving what you do is key," she said about her business success. "Also being a private spa with one-on-one attention was more important to people than I realized. They like the fact that when they are here all my focus goes to them. I’m not answering other calls or being pulled aside by another employee."

Covino, who operates the spa alone (she's receptionist, masseuse and credit card taker), also prides herself on offering a high quality skincare line that is made in small quantities.

"The line that I used is organic -- basically just fruits, vegetables and herbs along with encapsulated vitamins," she said. "It's cold pressed so you're getting straight active ingredients.

"Many skincare lines put ingredients in the products that you can't possibly imagine. Toxic chemicals such as propylene glycol (anti freeze), parabens, synthetic ingredients, petroleum, artificial colors which are carcinogenic, synthetic fragrances and silicone."

New for the holiday season, Covino is offering tailored body treatments. One in particular she's excited about is a rejuvenating detox body wrap and treatment that begins with a light dry brushing to encourage lymphatic flow and circulation.

"I may give people who book this a discount card for use of the infrared sauna which is another way to detox," she said. "The colder month skin is typically dryer so I also offer packages so clients can have a facial along with a relaxing body treatment or wrap."

Covino said she's asked anti-aging secrets all the time and her number one answer is exfoliation. "Many people tend to skip this part but it's so important," she said. "It increases cellular turnover which pushes fresh new cells to the surface. And it decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and produces smoother softer skin better to hold moisture and absorb products."
