Northern Westchester Resident Cited For Efforts To Make 'Ultimate Energy-Efficient Home'
A Northern Westchester resident has received national recognition for his efforts to create the ultimate energy-efficient home almost completely from scratch. Ossining resident Daniel Colombini was honored with a 2024 US Department of Energy Housing Innovation Award for his "passive house," according to Goldman Copeland, the New York City-based consulting engineering firm where he is a Principal. Dramatic Video Shows Officers Rescuing Residents From Burning Northern Westchester Home
Several residents were saved from the rear of a burning Northern Westchester residence after officers braved flames and a downed live wire to rescue them. The blaze happened in Ossining on Tuesday night, Aug. 6, when a residence on Maurice Avenue went up in flames, according to Ossining Police. A Northern Westchester man has been accused of threatening to kill US Postal Service employees and burn down post officers. Ossining resident Anthony Alfano, age 46, was arrested in Yorktown Heights on Friday, July 19, after making violent threats against USPS employees and threatening to burn down US post offices in Ossining, according to federal authorities. Rockland County Launches Free TOR Ferry Weekend Connection Bus
Weekend travelers will now have the opportunity to take a TOR ferry connection bus beginning this weekend to explore different parts of the Hudson Valley and New York City, free of charge. Rockland County Executive Ed Day and the Department of Public Transportation said that the service will begin on Saturday, July 6, and run through Nov. 10. The bus service will provide connecting transit service for Metro-North Hudson Line customers who travel to Haverstraw via the Haverstraw-Ossining weekend ferry, enabling them to travel beyond the Ferry Landing via public transit, officials said.
