System On Track To Be Major Hurricane Now Expected To Make Landfall In Florida: Here's Timing A major hurricane expected to develop on the Gulf Coast could hit Florida by the middle of next week as a Category 2 storm, according to forecasters. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has designated the system in the central Caribbean Sea as Tropical Depression 19. It would be called Sara after it becomes a tropical storm as expected. New Projected Timing Released For Potentially Major Hurricane Taking Aim At US The projected timing for a potentially major hurricane taking aim at the US coast has been updated and is earlier than some initial projections. AccuWeather is forecasting a powerful Category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained wind gusts of 110 to 130 miles per hour to make landfall along the Gulf Coast on Thursday, Sept. 26, likely in the Big Bend on Florida's west coast. “This is expected to be a large hurricane with a major storm surge threat and impacts that will reach hundreds of miles inland from where this storm makes landfall,” said AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Jon Porter.  …
