Hudson Valley Man Dies From Severe Burns After Battling Barn Fire A 47-year-old Hudson Valley man died from severe burns after battling a barn fire. The incident occurred in Orange County around 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 23, in Pine Island on Amity Road. According to Warwick Police Chief John Rader, police officers,  the Pine Island Fire Department, and EMS responded to a report of a structure fire. Rader said arriving officers found a fully involved barn fire and a man who was severely burned. The victim, a Pine Island resident, was pronounced dead at the scene, Rader said. Train Strikes SUV In Area, Teenage Driver Escapes Serious Injury A 19-year-old woman escaped serious injury after her SUV was hit by a train in the area. The crash took place around 11:57 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4 at the Forester Avenue crossing in the Village of Warwick, said the Warwick Fire Department on Facebook. Officials said the train did not have time to stop once it saw the vehicle crossing the tracks. After the vehicle was hit, it hit the pedestrian crossing sign on the side of the track. Kitten Rescued From Dumpster By Firefighters In Area Members of the Warwick Fire Department proved they’re always on call, making a special rescue of a kitten caught in a dumpster. Warwick Fire Capt. Joe Ingui was walking his dog Maya on Tuesday, Aug. 6, when he found a kitten caught in a precarious position outside Warwick Station 2. Officials said that firefighters from the Hooks and Raymond’s station used a strong arm rescue tool to safely remove the distressed kitten from the dumpster without incident, though the curious cat was spooked.
