The fire began around 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 24 in Dutchess County at 10 Market St., in Wappingers Falls, officials said. Small Plane Hits Runway Light During Training Flight At Hudson Valley Regional Airport A small plane struck a runway light at Hudson Valley Regional Airport during a training flight.  The incident took place around 8:22 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the airport in Wappingers Falls, said the Capt. John Watterson with the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office. According to Watterson, a flight instructor and a student pilot were in the small aircraft when the plane struck a short runway light. No one was injured and the plane was not damaged, Watterson said.

Woman Dies After Slipping On Icy Slope At Popular Hiking Spot In Area A 71-year-old woman slipped on an icy slope and fell to her death while hiking. Margaret A. Fitzgerald, of Wappingers Falls, was killed around 10:50 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 21, while hiking on the Mohonk Preserve Table Rocks trail, said Ulster County Sheriff's Lt. Abram Markiewicz. According to Markiewicz, Fitzgerald had been hiking with a group about a mile-and-a-half from the trailhead when she slipped on an icy slope and fell 50-feet down a narrow crevice.
