Rockland bus riders can expect prompt service now that Transit of Rockland buses are up and running again following a strike by drivers last week. Rockland riders suffered delays and lack of service on Friday, March 9 and Saturday, March 10 when some of TOR's 72 bus drivers went on strike in an effort to help reach a new collective bargaining agreement. 10-Point Plan To 'Transform' MTA Unveiled By Cuomo, de Blasio
Elected officials in New York have reached an agreement on a new plan to “transform” travel in the state. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio have introduced a 10-point proposal to transform the MTA and create “dedicated and sustained funding streams for the agency.” The plan includes “congestion” tolling and a reorganization of the MTA. Gas Prices Back On The Rise After Weeks Of Dropping
After enjoying weeks of declining gas prices at the pump, motorists in the area have seen an uptick this week, according to AAA. AAA announced that 28 states have seen gas prices rising this week, including New York and Connecticut, which each rose a cent from a week ago. Nationally, the national gas price has risen to an average of $2.33 per gallon, up six cents from a week ago. The number represents the largest one-week increase this year. A major, temporary lane shift is coming for Rockland-bound traffic on the new Tappan Zee Bridge. West Haverstraw Bridge Will Be Closed During Rail Line Work
A busy Rockland bridge will be closed for several months as contracting crews get set for a lengthy reconstruction project in the area. An alert was issued on Monday to Rockland County residents warning that beginning on Monday, April 2, the Samsondale Avenue Bridge in West Haverstraw over the CSX rail lines in West Haverstraw will be closed to all traffic for the bridge reconstruction project. Officials said that the project is expected to last through Dec. 2, when it is expected to be reopened to traffic. While the bridge is closed, motorists have been advised to seek alternate routes.
