The National Weather Service has now confirmed that a tornado touched down on Long Island on Labor Day afternoon. The tornado touched down in eastern Suffolk County in Manorville, just north of Route 27 (Sunrise Highway) in the area of Dayton Avenue from 4:33 p.m. to 4:38 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2. After touching down on Dayton Avenue, the twister went northeast through the southern end of adjacent Rosewood Street and then across intersecting cross street of South Street. Severe Thunderstorm Watch Now In Effect: Strong Storms With Gusty Winds Sweeping Through Area
With rounds of strong thunderstorms now sweeping through, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is now in effect until 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21 for the entire area. Be on the lookout for rapidly changing weather conditions into the evening, the National Weather Service said. The chance for storm activity will continue for several hours after the watch ends, until 1 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22. During that time, more than an inch of rainfall is likely, with locally higher amounts. Get set for a pre-Memorial Day weekend splash. A round of strong, isolated storms with gusty winds will sweep through the area later in the afternoon and into the evening on Thursday, May 23. The main time frame for storm activity will be from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Some of the storms could be locally severe, the National Weather Service said in a Hazardous Weather Statement issued early Thursday morning. A second tornado has been confirmed to have touched down in Connecticut during Tuesday's severe storms. The first tornado confirmed was in New Canaan and Norwalk, according to the National Weather Service. A third tornado has been confirmed in the Lower Hudson Valley/Fairfield County area during Tuesday's severe storm. The latest twister the National Weather Service has documented after completing surveying on Wednesday touched down in New Canaan at 5:29 p.m. and went through Norwalk until 5:41 p.m. It has been rated as an EF1 Twister, with the EF standing for Enhanced Fugita scale. A second tornado has been confirmed to have touched down in the Hudson Valley during Tuesday's severe storms that swept through the area in the late afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service said Wednesday afternoon that an EF1 twister touched down in Northern Westchester at 4:47 p.m. Tuesday in New Castle and lasted approximately 11 minutes, covering 3.75 miles. Two Tornadoes Confirmed So Far In Hudson Valley During Deadly Storm

The National Weather Service has confirmed that two tornadoes and two microbursts touched down in the Hudson Valley during the intense storm system that moved through the area Tuesday and resulted in the deaths of an 11-year-old girl in Orange County, 80-year-old woman in Rockland County as well as two adults in Fairfield County.
