A quick-thinking CVS store clerk saved an elderly woman from being ripped off for more than $3,000 after realizing she was probably being scammed. The incident took place around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, when the Clarkstown Police Department responded to the New City CVS about a possible scam, said Clarkstown Police Det. Peter Walker. Rockland residents are being warned of IRS and utility scams now making the rounds. According to Spring Valley Police Chief Paul J. Modica, numerous innocent people are receiving telephone calls from criminals claiming to be the Internal Revenue Service or a utility company.
