Lotto Jackpot: $9.6 Million Winning Ticket Sold In Hudson Valley
Someone is having a great Labor Day weekend after purchasing a winning $9.6 million New York Lotto ticket in the Hudson Valley. The lucky ticket was sold in Rockland County for the Saturday, Sept. 2 game, lottery officials said. The winning numbers for the game are 13-37-40-45-47-52 and a Bonus Number of 9. The prize-winning ticket was sold at Yas Quickmart on Route 59 in Suffern. To win the New York Lotto jackpot, players must match six numbers drawn from a field of one to 59. Ramapo Police Department Mourns Death Of Retired Lieutenant
The Ramapo Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its retired lieutenants. Lieutenant William Starkey passed away on Thursday, April 8, surrounded by his daughters and wife. He was 82 years old. Starkey, a Spring Valley native, served with the department from December of 1966 to January of 2006. "Bill is credited with developing our Firearms Training Unit," the department said. "Bill was an “old school” boss and always built camaraderie with department members." Longtime Rockland County Police Lieutenant Dies Suddenly
A longtime Rockland County police lieutenant has died unexpectedly. The Suffern Police Department announced the death of Lieutenant John Mallon on Thursday, Feb. 18. Mallon was raised in Suffern and fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a Suffern Police Officer. The department said he "proudly" served the Suffern community as a police officer for 40 years, rising through the ranks from patrolman, sergeant, detective sergeant to lieutenant. Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle On Route 59
This story has been updated. A stretch of Route 59 (Lafayette Avenue) in the area of the Salvation Army in Suffern was closed in both directions after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. The victim was rushed to Nyack Hospital after the incident, which occurred just before 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7. The extent of the injuries has not yet been released. Three Rockland Businesses Cited For Selling Alcohol To Minors
Three businesses were cited for the sale of alcohol to minors in a compliance check conducted by the Ramapo Police Department, in conjunction with the Rockland County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, on Thursday, Dec. 20. An undercover agent under 21 years old, the legal drinking age, attempted to purchase alcohol from businesses throughout the town without providing identification. Know Her? Beagle Found On Route 59
Do you recognize her? Police in Ramapo are attempting to reunite an older female beagle who was recently found sitting on the corner of Route 59 in front of the Wanamaker and Carlough Funeral Home in Suffern Park. The beagle was found with a black collar, but she has no microchip or tag. The department is hoping to reunite her with her family. Officers took the dog to the Hi-Tor Animal Shelter in Pomona, where she currently resides.
