Longtime Riverkeeper Captain To Retire After 24 Years Patrolling Hudson River For the past 24 years, Hudson Valley native John Lipscomb has served as the eyes and ears of the Hudson River for Riverkeeper as its patrol boat captain. In an effort to ease the transition from plastic to paper when the ban takes effect on Sunday, March 1, Stop & Shop is offering to trade carryout plastic bags for free reusable bags (while supplies last).
