Two brothers who killed a Hudson Valley man who shot him 12 times and left him lying in his driveway to be found by a sanitation worker have been sentenced to years in prison.
The incident occurred in Ulster County in Jan. 2023 in Plattekill.
The men, Orange County resident Junando Dawkins, age 30, of Newburgh, and his brother, Juwaugh Dawkins, age 34, of Jacksonville, Florida, were sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

A months-long investigation into a murder in the Hudson Valley has led to the arrest of a United States Army soldier.
Orange County resident Junando Dawkins, age 29, of Newburgh was apprehended at the US Army base in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, New York State Police announced on Saturday, March 11.
The body of the victim in the case, 41-year-old Daniel Spotards, was found in Ulster County early Monday, Jan. 2, in the town of Plattekil, on the Campbell Lane extension near Saul Trail.

An Ulster County man has been arrested for an alleged past robbery and possession of a gun in Dutchess.
Dillon Brown, age 23, of Plattekill, was arrested around 5:25 p.m., by the City of Beacon Police after officers responded to a report of a past robbery involving a firearm, said Detective Sergeant Jason Johnson.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found two men, including Brown who was in possession of a "quantity" of narcotics, as well as a semi-automatic “ghost gun," said Johnson.

Two families were left homeless one day after Christmas due to a raging house fire.
The fire took place around 2:32 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 26 in Orange County at 118 Plains Road in Walden.

As of Monday, May 11, there have been a total of 1,505 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ulster County, with nearly 900 still active.
