Man Dies After Rescuing Grandchildren In Area House Fire, Police Say
An area grandfather died after saving his two grandchildren from a fire that destroyed a Hudson Valley home. The fire broke out in Putnam County around 10 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, at a home on Scarsdale Road in Lake Carmel, a hamlet in the town of Kent. A local fire department was able to rescue a 31-year-old horse after he became stuck between a rock and a fence in the Hudson Valley. The incident took place in Putnam County around 7:30 a.m., on Wednesday, Aug. 25, when the Patterson Fire Department received a call to respond to a local farm to assist the horse named "Dozer." The identity of the man killed in an early morning crash involving an overturned tractor-trailer and a car that shut down a stretch of I-84 for more than 10 hours on Monday has been released. The closure occurred on eastbound I-84 at Exit 17 (Ludingtonville Road/Route 43) in Kent.
