FDA Bans Red No. 3 Due To Cancer Concerns About Artificial Coloring In Many Foods
The Food and Drug Administration has officially banned Red No. 3, a synthetic dye that gives certain foods their vivid cherry-red hue, due to cancer concerns in lab animals.
The FDA revoked the authorization for the coloring's use in food products, oral drugs, and dietary supplements, the agency said in a news release on Wednesday, Jan. 15.

A new variant of COVID-19 might be more transmissible, and it may evade some protection from vaccines, according to a new study.
Business Standard reported that researchers in South Africa said the variant was discovered in May.

Anthony Haruch, 94, formerly of Mahopac and Somers, died on Sunday, July 5 from COVID-19.
The last of six siblings and a lifelong bachelor, he devoted his life to art education. He received his BS in Education from SUNY Buffalo and MA from Columbia University and spent his career teaching in the Mahopac Central School District. In retirement he continued educating, publishing teaching materials, and taught jewelry making.
