A New York contractor is facing federal charges for allegedly stealing millions of dollars from Hurricane Sandy victims and using the money to fund a lavish lifestyle.
Alexander Almaraz, age 55, who formerly lived on Long Island, in Freeport on , is expected to be arraigned on wire fraud charges in federal court in Central Islip on Thursday, Jan. 26, according to the US Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District.

Congressman Maloney's Office, Still Without Power, Offers Food At Shelters
In response to Tuesday's deadly storms which left tens of thousands of Hudson Valley residents without power, U.S. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, a Democrat from Cold Spring, has offered two satellite locations in the City of Newburgh to assist local residents.
The satellite shelters, located at Hudson Valley RECAP and Cornerstone Family Healthcare, will offer food and water, as well as additional assistance to people who need help with federal or state agencies.
