Northern Westchester School District Taps Interim Superintendent To Permanent Post
A familiar face is set to officially take over at the helm of a school district serving communities in both Northern Westchester and Putnam counties. A Northern Westchester school was temporarily placed in a lockout due to a police investigation, officials said. In Yorktown, the George Washington Elementary School in the Lakeland Central School District, entered its lockout early in the day on Tuesday, Jan 25 due to state police activity hundreds of yards away from the building. A custodian at a Northern Westchester school is being hailed as a hero after coming to the rescue of a student who was in danger of choking to death. Angelo Alessandro, a custodial worker at George Washington Elementary School in Mohegan Lake, rushed to the aid of a third-grade student who began choking while eating lunch last month. A popular Northern Westchester teacher died unexpectedly on Monday, Feb. 22. Danielle Marie Coletta of Peekskill was 48 years old. She was a sixth-grade teacher at Mildred E. Strang Middle School in Yorktown. Her career began at Columbus Elementary School in Hawthorne, teaching second grade, followed by many years at Brookside Elementary School in Yorktown, as a third-grade teacher. Police: Father Charged With DWI After Dropping Off Daughters At School In Northern Westchester
A 34-year-old father was driving drunk at more than twice the legal limit after dropping his two small daughters off at a school in Northern Westchester, police said. Thomas Fazio was arrested around 9 a.m., on Friday, Oct. 4, after a school staff member informed Daniel Curtis, the Yorktown Police School Resource Officer at George Washington Elementary School in Mohegan Lake, that a man had just dropped off his children and appeared to be intoxicated, said Yorktown Police. Level 3 Sex Offender Reports Move Near Elementary School In Area
A registered Level 3 sex offender has moved into a residence in the shadow of a Hudson Valley elementary school. Calvin Buford, a designated sexually violent offender, has moved into an Elizabeth Street residence in Kingston, a stone's throw away from George Washington Elementary School, which is approximately .1 miles away, according to Google Maps.
