Localized flash flooding is possible as a cold front with heavy downpours and embedded thunderstorms moves through the region. More Spotty Storms Possible As Potent System Pushes Through Northeast New rounds of scattered showers and storms could lead to localized areas of flash flooding in parts of the region with the possibility of isolated tornadoes. The time frame for the storm is Monday night, Aug. 14 into Tuesday, Aug. 15. Rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches an hour are possible where there are heavy downpours, according to the National Weather Service. An approaching frontal system will bring thunderstorms and heavy rain that could cause flash flooding. The system will arrive from west to east early Thursday afternoon, Aug. 10, and continue to move through into the evening. Several busy main roads in the Hudson Valley are expected to soon reopen following a severe storm system that dropped several inches of rain and resulted in historic flooding, officials said.
