NJ Pilot ID'd In Fiery Plane Crash At Kobelt/Walkill Airport (

An 80-year-old pilot from New Jersey was killed when his small plane crashed at a Hudson Valley airport on Saturday, Sept. 27, state police said in an update. Gerald "Jerry" Cotter, 80, of Milford (Hunterdon County), was attempting to take off from Kobelt/Wallkill Airport in Shawangunk, NY when the small plane crashed and caught fire around 2:25 p.m., NYSP said. Cotter, who was the only person on board, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified. The investigation is ongoing.

Several fire and police departments are battling a large brush fire near a country club in the Hudson Valley. More than seven fire departments spent several hours battling a brush fire in Orangeburg after police received a report of "an odor of smoke" in the area, according to the Orangetown Police.
