4 Boaters, 2 Dogs Rescued After Boat Capsizes In Hudson River
Firefighters rescued four people and two dogs after a 17-foot boat capsized in the Hudson River. The incident occurred in Dutchess County near New Hamburgh and the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge around 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 3. According to Chief Jeffrey Renihan of the New Hamburg Fire Department, the department responded to a water emergency call that four people and two animals were hanging on a 17-foot boat that had capsized in the Hudson River. Two Rescued From Partially Sunken Jet Skis In Region
Other than some likely bruised egos, two jet skiers are safe after being rescued from the Hudson River. Emergency crews were called around 9 p.m. Friday, May 13, with reports of two personal watercraft (PWC) operators in distress near the Rip Van Winkle Bridge in Catskill, according to the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office. Several agencies, including the US Coast Guard, responded and found one man stranded on a partially sunken jet ski, police said. Boater Stranded Overnight Rescued By Sheriff's Marine Unit
A man who was adrift in the Hudson River after his boat engine died was rescued by members of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit. The rescue took place around 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 18, when deputies located a boater who was stranded overnight on the Hudson River, said Dutchess County Sheriff's Office Lt. Shawn Castano. Newly Signed NY Boat Safety Law Honors Memory Of 11-Year-Old Girl
New legislation has been signed into law improving boating safety in honor of an 11-year-old girl who died in a 2005 accident. Brianna’s Law was signed by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo this week, which will phase in requirements that all operators of watercraft must complete a state-approved boating safety course. Lightning Strike Hospitalizes Three In Area
A lightning strike on Lake Mahopac sent three people out boating to the hospital and slightly injured another. The incident took place around 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 4 when Putnam County Sheriff's Sgt. Matthew Monroe of the department's Marine Patrol Unit responded to a report of an occupied disabled boat on Lake Mahopac, the department said. During heavy rain and frequent lightning strikes Monroe was able to locate the disabled vessel, near the northwest corner of the lake.
