Dogs Stuck In Icy Hudson River Rescued
Two dogs who were out for a day of adventure were rescued after they became stranded on the ice on the Hudson River in the area of Parker Avenue in Ulster County. Members of the Esopus Fire Department responded to the area around 3 p.m. after receiving word of the stuck dogs, the department said on their Facebook page. Once firefighters arrived and confirmed the dogs were on the ice without access to retrieve them, they went to work along with the Rifton Fire Department with their ice rescue team and the Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad, the department said. A dog that went missing in March was reunited with her Wyckoff family on Christmas Eve. The same day that the Sterlacci family brought Bella home March 30, the pup charged into the neighbor's yard and ran. And ran. And ran. PETA Celebrates Police Department In Westchester For Rescuing Deer
A police department in the area will be receiving an award from PETA after two officers rescued a deer that found itself caught in a makeshift hammock. A Compassionate Police Department Award is on its way from PETA to the Yonkers Police Department after officers Matthew Donaldson and David MacDonald rescued the buck, whose antlers were caught in a makeshift hammock outside a home on Arthur Place on Monday morning. Know Her? Beagle Found On Route 59
Do you recognize her? Police in Ramapo are attempting to reunite an older female beagle who was recently found sitting on the corner of Route 59 in front of the Wanamaker and Carlough Funeral Home in Suffern Park. The beagle was found with a black collar, but she has no microchip or tag. The department is hoping to reunite her with her family. Officers took the dog to the Hi-Tor Animal Shelter in Pomona, where she currently resides. Anyone who recognizes the beagle, or who knows its owners, has been asked to contact police by calling (845) 357-2400 or the animal shelter at (845) 354-7900.

Hold your horses. Literally. There was no day off for members of the Ramapo Police Department, who came to the rescue of a loose horse early during the Columbus Day holiday. The Ramapo Police Department received a report of a loose horse on Ackertown Road at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 8. Two officers hoofed it over to the area, and eventually tracked down the horse near Twin Lakes Drive. To The Rescue: Police Officers Help Corral Loose Iguana In Westchester
Jurassic Park came to Westchester on Thursday afternoon. Police officers from the 3rd Precinct in Yonkers were flagged by a local resident on Thursday afternoon, when an iguana was spotted and was on the loose in the area. The officers were able to corral the “not-so-little” reptile, and snapped some photos. The iguana was unharmed during the rescue mission, and was ultimately taken in by the Good Samaritan who alerted police to the stray animal.

Dozens Of Malnourished Goats Seized From Hudson Valley Farm
Twenty-seven goats and a calf were within days of death when found by Hudson Valley SPCA officials on an Orange County farm after receiving a complaint. The goats were discovered after Gene Hecht, chief of the Hudson Valley SPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement Division, applied for a warrant to raid the farm in the Town of Goshen after investigating. Spring Valley Fire Chief Ray Canario thought he would go help save a kitten up a tree when a call came in, but instead, he ended up rescuing the man who was trying to save the kitten. "It was priceless," the chief said with a laugh. According to Canario, the man, who lives on Wolfe Drive, had used a 6-foot ladder to try and save a kitten in a tree but ended up climbing about 10 feet to reach the little fuzz ball. A defenseless hawk with a broken wing that was rescued by police a Ramapo Police Officer this week in New Square has been transported to a “one-of-a-kind sanctuary” to be treated by an avian veterinarian who will release it back into the wild. Officers from the Ramapo Police Department made a special save on Sunday night, helping to rescue a swan that required some assistance after sustaining an injury to its leg. In the video, volunteers can be seen capturing the injured swan on Spook Rock Road before helping the bird into a cage. The swan was then transported to a rehabilitation farm, where it will be treated by experts for a broken leg.
