Michelle was born on June 22, 1988 in New York City and was raised in the Goshen area. She attended John S. Burke Catholic High School where she excelled in academics and participated in the school plays and Mock Trial.
She received her Bachelor’s degree from Villanova University where she majored in Math and Comprehensive Science.
After graduation, her love of teaching, math, and science led her to work as a tutor in Orange County and later at a non-profit in New York City. Her students meant the world to her and she often baked for them.
Michelle will be missed by her parents, Drs. Mary and Barry Altura; her grandmother, Mary Horan; her brother, Joseph Altura; her sister, Dr. Melissa Altura; her brother-in-law, Dr. Erik Petersen; her nephew, Soren Altura-Petersen; and her aunt, Claire Altura. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Joseph Horan and Ruth and Martin Altura; and her aunt and uncle, Althea and Joseph Connolly. Michelle will also be missed by her many students past and present.
Visiting hours are from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17 at Donovan Funeral Home, 82 S. Church Street in Goshen The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 18 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 71 Murray Ave., Goshen NY with the burial to follow at St. John Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Figure Skating in Harlem where she worked.
