The raid, conducted in July, revealed a grisly scene, including a 2-month-old foal, found lying dead in the nursing position next to the body of its mother.

The nearly-starved stallion was found chewing on the wood in his stall with the skeleton of another dead horse, but is expected to recover. Other stalls were found with a foot or more of feces collected on the floor.

Jeanne Ryan, 48, a former NYPD officer, one count of cruelty to animals and another five counts of failure to properly dispose of dead animals. She is due for arraignment in September, the Times Herald-Record said.
