Man Drowns In Lake During Outing With Family In Rockland County A man on an outing with his family at Harriman State Park drowned after jumping into the lake and swimming about 100 feet away. The incident occurred in Rockland County around 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 18, at Lake Sebago in Stony Point. According to Trooper Steven Nevel with the New York State Police, a preliminary investigation revealed that Carlos G. Gomez Tay, age 31, from Palisades Park, New Jersey, was with his family at the lake and went swimming.  Tay swam about 100 feet away from his family and started calling for help, Nevel said. Harmful Algae Causes Closure Of Popular Beach In Hudson Valley A harmful algae bloom has closed a popular state park beach in the Hudson Valley. Lake Welch Beach and picnic grounds in Harriman State Park in Rockland County will be closed at least through Sunday, July 14, according to the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Park officials said an algaecide is being applied to Lake Welch to provide targeted treatment and minimize the spread of the bloom.  Conditions will be reassessed next week to determine when the beach can reopen. Body Recovered After Person Jumps From Bear Mountain Bridge A body was recovered after a person jumped from the Bear Mountain Bridge. The incident happened around 1 p.m. Friday, May 17. The body of the victim was recovered from the Hudson River near Stony Point, according to Trooper A.J. Hicks of the New York State Police. The identity of the person has not yet been released.
