The Jersey Shore star, 37, ran the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon on Sunday, March 16, and later sat down with Peloton coach Becs Gentry on the New York Road Runners "Set the Pace" podcast to talk all things running—Jersey style.
Guadagnino, a Staten Island native, said he didn’t take running seriously until he moved to Manhattan, where the West Side Highway became his personal track. “I started with two miles and was like, ‘this is amazing,’” he said. “There’s energy, people smoking you—and that motivates me.”
What began as casual runs turned into a structured training plan with a coach, leading to his first road race at the Bronx 10-Miler and eventually the TCS NYC Marathon last fall. Now, he’s hooked.
During Sunday’s half, Guadagnino held a steady pace, crossing 3.1 miles at 26:14, hitting 6.2 at 52:45, and finishing strong in 1:54:41—an average 8:45 per mile.
Despite struggling with insomnia in the past, he’s learned to “sleep train” before big races—but doesn’t sweat it if he can’t. “Watching TikToks of ultramarathoners who haven’t slept in four days—that’s my motivation,” he joked.
Before wrapping up the chat, Gentry threw in some Jersey Shore curveballs:
- Which castmate would he want to run with?
- What’s harder, marathon training or surviving a Jersey Shore night out?
- What’s the running equivalent of GTL?
