Voutila died on Thursday, March 13, soon after his family welcomed a new life. His family said his death was "completely unexpected."

"Just hours prior, his daughter Ashley gave birth to his granddaughter Mia, who he sadly never got the chance to meet. This has been an unimaginable loss for his wife Debbie and their children, Ashley and Mike," Voutila's loved ones wrote in a GoFundMe page started to raise money for his funeral costs.

Born in Finland on December 16, 1953, Voutila grew up in Brooklyn and Mahopac, where he graduated from high school before settling in Dutchess County. In 1983, he married his wife, Debbie, and built a life devoted to his family, according to his obituary.

An avid Yankees fan and sports lover, Voutila spent years coaching his children’s baseball and softball teams, creating strong bonds with the many young athletes he mentored. His home was a gathering place for neighborhood kids, where he and Debbie were often seen as second parents to many.

Later in life, Voutila worked as a driver for Safe Ride, forming countless friendships and becoming a familiar face to many in the community. Known for his quick wit, warm heart, and gift of conversation, he left a lasting impression on everyone he met, his obituary continued.

His sudden death has placed a financial strain on his family, as his life insurance expired on his birthday in December. The GoFundMe page, started by a friend of his family with their blessing, is meant to help with this, his family explained.

"Paul touched so many people’s lives, and we would like to honor him by supporting his family during this extremely difficult time," wrote the organizer, Brittany Strang, who added, "Thank you for helping us give Paul a proper farewell. God bless!"

As of Monday, March 17, the effort had collected $1,500 in donations out of an $8,000 goal.

A visitation for Voutila will be held on Saturday, March 15, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home in Poughkeepsie.
