Two men from New York City were arrested as they retrieved $42,800 in payments sent by victims of a telephone scam to vacant homes for sale in Fairfield County, police say. Police received a complaint on Tuesday, Nov. 19, of suspicious activity concerning the delivery of packages to vacant homes for sale. On Friday, Nov. 22, police received a call from a UPS security about suspicious deliveries scheduled to be delivered to two vacant homes for sale in eastern Fairfield County in the town of Monroe. Phone Scam Warning Issued By Police In Orange County
Police in Walden are warning local residents to be on alert following several reported telephone scams involving opportunistic fraudsters claiming the caller has an arrest warrant out, and immediate payment is needed to clear it. Investigators received a report this week from a Walden resident reporting that they received a call from a number that appeared to be from the police department, saying that the matter could be fixed by paying a fine of $1,000 with a credit or debit card, with future payable installments. Rockland Sheriff Warns Of New Telephone Scam
The Rockland County Sheriff's office is warning Rockland County residents about a new round of telephone scams in which the callers are pretending to be calling on behalf of the sheriff's office. According to Chief William Barbera, the caller's say that a warrant has been issued and if the person does not pay an amount of money the Sheriff's Office will arrest them. "These aggressive and threatening phone calls by criminals impersonating our officers are demanding payment with the threat of arrest," he said.
