State Police Pursuit Into Rockland Tops 100 MPH, Ends In Arrest
A high-speed New Jersey State Police pursuit that began Wednesday night in Morris County ended nearly a half-hour later in Rockland with a suspect in custody, responders said. The nearly 30-mile chase began on northbound Route 287 shortly before 8 p.m. With wet road conditions and speeds eventually topping 100 miles per hours, troopers began to pull back as the suspect exited at Airmont Road in Suffern, responders said. Tractor-Trailer Tips At Treacherous Stretch Of Route 17 Near NY Border In Mahwah
UPDATE: Three lanes of northbound Route 17 near the Route 287 ramp at the New York border in Mahwah were closed Thursday morning after a tractor-trailer tipped. Detours were being set up following the mishap, which occurred just after 10 a.m., Police Chief James N. Batelli said. The driver escaped unharmed, he said. The site eventually was cleared and normal traffic resumed after noon.

Tractor-Trailer Rollover At State Line Closes Route 287 Overpass
The driver got out OK after a tractor-trailer tipped over Wednesday afternoon on the Route 287 overpass in Mahwah at the Rockland County border -- but area traffic wasn't faring as well. New Jersey Department of Transportation officials temporarily closed the overpass, as well as Exit 66 off the northbound highway, following the 2:45 p.m. crash. New Jersey State Police and Mahwah police also responded.

Port Jervis Men Caught With 450 Heroin Bags In Route 287 Stop, Police Say
Three New York State men -- two of them from Port Jervis -- were arrested just across the New Jersey state line by police who said they found the trio carrying 450 bags of heroin during a stop on northbound Route 287. Officer Christopher Fasulo stopped the car, driven by Donovan Burton, 18, of Port Jervis for several motor vehicle violations, Mahwah Police Chief James N. Batelli said. Burton and his passengers gave conflicting stories about their travels, after which Fasulo obtained Burton’s consent to search the vehicle, the chief said. A Pennsylvania driver whose car rear-ended an SUV on northbound Route 287 late Friday afternoon, ejecting a 12-year-old boy, was intoxicated and unlicensed, New Jersey State Police said. An AirMed One medical chopper flew the boy to Hackensack University Medical Center with head trauma after the crash near Exit 66 (Mahwah) just before 3 p.m. He remained in critical but stable condition, authorities reported Saturday. Tipped Tractor-Trailer Spills Pallets Onto Route 287 Flyover In Mahwah
MAHWAH, N.J. -- A tipped tractor-trailer dumped a huge load of wooden pallets onto the Route 287 flyover in Mahwah near the Rockland border early Wednesday. The interchange was closed while a wrecker removed the rig and members of a New Jersey DOT Emergency Response Team cleaned up the mess. Authorities Try To ID Victim In Fiery Overnight Route 287 Crash In Mahwah
MAHWAH, N.J. -- One person was killed when a Jeep plowed into a parked tractor-trailer overnight Sunday on Route 287 in Mahwah near the New York State line, authorities said. Authorities were trying to identify the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene after the fiery 2:30 a.m. crash on the northbound highway melted even the license plates of the Cherokee, which struck a parked rig hauling cases of water. Mahwah Fire Companies 1, 2 and 4 responded and extinguished the flames. Franklin Lakes provided mutual aid. New Jersey State Police were investigating.
