The number of active COVID-19 cases in Orange County has topped 2,000 for the first time during the fall.
According to the county Department of Health, there are currently 20,26 1,732 active COVID-19 cases in Orange County on Monday, Dec. 21, up from 1,732 a week ago.
The state Health Department was reporting 196 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.
There have now been 20,798 COVID-19 confirmed positives reported in Orange County out of more than 350,000 tests administered, according to the Department of Health.

The Orange County Department of Health is now monitoring nearly 2,000 active COVID-19 cases as the Hudson Valley contends with the second surge of the virus making the rounds through the region.
According to the county Department of Health, there are 1,972 active COVID-19 cases in Orange County on Thursday, Dec. 9, up from 1,651 as recently as Monday, Dec. 7. The state Health Department was reporting 186 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.

Two Officers Cleared After Fatally Shooting Mentally Ill Man Brandishing Knife
Two police officers who fatally shot a mentally ill, intoxicated man allegedly menacing them with a knife were cleared of wrongdoing by a grand jury in Orange County.
On Thursday, March 19, the now-deceased man's mother, Beverly Parker, called the City of Port Jervis Police Department, saying that her son was “sitting here with a knife in his hand,” and was a “psych patient” who was “off his medication," according to Orange County District Attorney David M.
