A 22-year-old woman has been arrested for the murder of her newborn daughter who was allegedly left outside in freezing temperatures to die.
Orange County resident Nicole Layman, of Port Jervis, was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 18, by detectives, said police.
According to police, the child -- named Sophia Grace -- was found lying around 10:30 p.m. in a dirt lot on Nov. 12, 2019, at the intersection of Hornbeck Avenue and Brooklyn Street in Port Jervis, Port Jervis Police Chief William Worden said.

A second man has pleaded guilty to the gunpoint robbery of a 67-year-old man who was locked in the trunk of his vehicle in the area.
Orange County resident Justin White, 30, of Port Jervis, pleaded guilty on Thursday, Jan. 23, robbery in connection with the August 2018 crime, said the Orange County District Attorney's Office.
White had previously pleaded guilty to rape for having sex with an underage girl, the DA's Office said.
He faces up to 17 years in prison when he is sentenced in March.

An area woman has been sentenced to four years in state prison for selling heroin to a woman who later died from an overdose.
Orange County resident Ashley Parker, 27, of Deerpark, was sentenced on Wednesday, Jan. 22, in connection with the May 2019 death of a Port Jervis woman, said Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler.
