Police in Northern Westchester are investigating three scams that came to the department's attention within a matter of days. The incidents took place in Croton-on-Hudson beginning on Thursday, Aug. 18 with the last being reported on Monday, Aug. 22. During the first incident, a resident reported receiving multiple FedEx notices in the mail from what appeared to be her mortgage company requesting her banking information, the department reported. A stolen rental car went from Florida all the way to Westchester County before two local men were busted by police, authorities said. Police in New Rochelle received a call from Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Miami at around 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, informing them that one of the company’s stolen vehicles was believed to be in the area. An employee with Enterprise told police that GPS data indicated the vehicle was located on Huguenot Street near Central Avenue. Deputy Police Chief In Hudson Valley Dies At Age 52
Family, friends, and co-workers are mourning the loss of a Hudson Valley deputy police chief who died following a battle with cancer. Deputy Town of Newburgh Police Chief Robert DeSaye died on Tuesday, Aug. 23, in Poughkeepsie. He was 52 years old. DeSaye, who served the department for 20 years, retired in June and was promoted to deputy chief before his retirement. DeSaye had battled a rare form of cancer for more than a year. A 911 dispatcher could lose their job after reportedly hanging up on a store employee who called for help during the mass shooting in Buffalo. An Erie County spokesperson told Daily Voice the dispatcher has been placed on administrative leave and a disciplinary hearing has been scheduled. “Termination from employment is a possible outcome,” said spokesperson Daniel Meyer. A police vehicle in the Hudson Valley was damaged by an “emotionally disturbed person” who was believed to be suicidal, authorities announced. Members of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office responded to a Mill Road residence in the Town of Rhinebeck at approximately 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, to conduct a welfare check on a reported emotionally disturbed suicidal person. Students and staff were forced to evacuate a school in Westchester after a bomb threat was made targeting a building within the district. The Woodland Middle High School in Greenburgh was evacuated at around 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, when there was a reported bomb threat made, district officials announced. Two police officers escaped serious injuries after being plowed into by another vehicle while responding to a medical emergency in Westchester. The crash took place around 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 4, when two Yonkers police officers were responding to a medical emergency in the area of Tuckahoe Road. According to Sgt. A Westchester County school district was temporarily locked down after a purported anonymous threat was posted on social media seemingly targeting an area building. In Westchester, the Harrison School District put emergency protocols in place early on Monday, Nov. 8 for all school buildings after there was a threat made targeting the high school. A man who was stabbed in the arm and chest in the area is not cooperating with the police. The incident took place around 1:34 p.m., Wednesday, May 26, in the City of Poughkeepsie, said Det. Lt. Matt Clark. According to Clark, a police officer was flagged down and told there had been a stabbing in the area of Main and Rose Streets. The Ramapo Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its retired lieutenants. Lieutenant William Starkey passed away on Thursday, April 8, surrounded by his daughters and wife. He was 82 years old. Starkey, a Spring Valley native, served with the department from December of 1966 to January of 2006. Gerard O’Sullivan, age 61, of New City, was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison for the murder of Noe Hamer, age 42, who was shot and killed in Rockland County on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, at the McGowan’s Funeral Home in Haverstraw after he was told he was fired. A police officer was hospitalized after being stabbed in the neck during an incident in the area overnight. It happened around 7:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 in the City of Poughkeepsie.
