Metro-North May Raise Parking Fees At Some Stations
Parking may be getting a bit costlier for Metro-North riders. The MTA is reviewing a proposal to increase fees at 25 station parking facilities that are controlled by the railroad. It would impact riders east of the Hudson River, including the Harlem, Hudson and New Haven lines. Permit holders for 16-hour parking would pay an average of $42.75 annually, approximately 12 cents a day. Customers who use daily meters will pay an average of $14.17 more monthly, with the meters increasing by 50 to 75 cents for 16-hour parking. Metro-North Announces New Safety Improvements, Positive Train Control
The MTA has taken steps to ensure the safety of Metro-North riders. Metro-North President Catherine Rinaldi announced that “Positive Train Control” has been extended to cover nearly 90 percent of the Hudson Line. All Hudson Line trains, including Amtrak and CSX, are now operating in Positive Train Control for the 67 miles between Marble Hill and Poughkeepsie. Man Airlifted To Westchester Medical Center After Being Hit By Metro-North Train
A man received serious injuries to his leg after being struck by a work train heading north to Poughkeepsie. The incident took place around 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, near the Metro-North Breakneck Ridge Station, said Meredith Daniels, a spokeswoman for the MTA. When police and first responders arrived on the scene they found the man had sustained leg injuries and he was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center, Daniels said. Trains on the Hudson Line were delayed 15 to 20 minutes as a result of the incident. The MTA police are investigating the incident.

Plan Calls For Cutting Thousands Of MTA Jobs In First Significant Layoff Since 2010
A new reorganization plan from the MTA may lead to the loss of as many as 2,700 jobs. Consulting group AlixPartners released a new report stating that the new reorganization plan may leave thousands out of work, while saving the MTA upwards of $350 to $500 million annually. It would be the MTA's first significant round of layoffs since 2010. Westchester Resident ID'd As Man Struck, Killed By Metro-North Train
The identity of a man struck and killed by a Metro-North train in Westchester has been released. Surendra Bhansali, 64, of Scarsdale, was identified as the man killed by the 8:26 a.m. southbound train from Southeast that struck and killed him at approximately 9:20 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12. The MTA noted that Bhansali was not authorized to be on the tracks when he was struck. Metro-North officials are investigating after a person was found dead on the tracks at a train station in the area The body was discovered around 10:46 p.m., Monday, April 1, when the crew of a westbound train from Stamford to Grand Central Station reported a deceased person on the tracks at the Mount Vernon East Train Station, said MTA officials.
