A Dutchess County high school was placed on lockout Monday afternoon, Sept. 15, due to nearby police activity, officials said. At around 3:15 p.m. on Monday, Wappingers Central School District Superintendent Dwight Bonk announced that John Jay High School in East Fishkill went into lockout status after law enforcement notified administrators of an ongoing police matter near Interstate 84. A 57-year-old man is facing felony drug charges after allegedly tossing cocaine from his vehicle during a brief police chase on Interstate 84 in Orange County, police said. A Massachusetts man was killed in a crash on Interstate 84 in New York Friday morning, June 27, New York State Police said. A man was injured after losing control of the tractor-trailer he was driving on an icy Interstate 84 in the Hudson Valley. The crash happened in Orange County on Thursday, Feb. 6, just before 11 a.m., when a tractor-trailer driving east on I-84 in Wallkill slid on ice and snow and veered off the right side of the highway, according to New York State Police. The tractor-trailer then hit a tree. The 32-year-old driver was treated for minor injuries. No traffic tickets were issued, police said.

Fatal Crash: Vehicle Hits Tree, Goes Up In Flames On Busy Hudson Valley Highway
A person was killed in a fiery crash on a busy Hudson Valley highway, police announced. The incident happened in Putnam County on Monday, May 6, around 7:15 p.m., when a vehicle traveling on I-84 in Kent left the roadway and struck a tree, according to Trooper AJ Hicks of the New York State Police. After hitting the tree, the vehicle went up in flames, Hicks said. The driver, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the crash has not been released. Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash on a stretch of Interstate 84. It happened around 5:50 p.m. Saturday, June 17 in Tolland County, in the town of Vernon.
