$23.6 Million Bridge Construction Project Completed In Hudson Valley
A $23.6 million project to replace and rehabilitate bridges along a busy area roadway has been completed. The goal of the project on Route 9W in Orange County was to enhance safety and improve travel along the highway in the towns of New Windsor, Cornwall, and Highlands, the state has announced. Storm Ida: Nine Deaths Now Reported In NY, Recovery Effort Update
Gov. Kathy Hochul gave New Yorkers an update on the state's recovery efforts after Tropical Depression Ida carved a destructive path through the region, with record rainfall and nine reported deaths in the state. Hochul gave the update during a news conference on Thursday, Aug. 2, at the Great Neck Long Island Rail Road station in Nassau County. Some popular, prominent restaurants are coming to New York State Thruway rest stops as part of a multi-million project to redevelop more than two dozen service stations. Beginning on Thursday, July 29, construction will begin on a $450 million project to develop 27 service areas on the Thruway, officials announced this week. The $3.2 million dollar replacement of the Salt Point Turnpike Bridge in the Town of Pleasant Valley has been completed. Construction, which included the replacement of the bridge over Wappinger Creek, the reconfiguration of an intersection and the replacement of an adjacent culvert, began on April 16 of 2019. The new bridge has two new four-foot-wide shoulders, improving safety and mobility along State Route 115, and the culvert promotes the health of the waterway by allowing water to flow more freely through the area. Many New Yorkers are miffed at Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont’s proposal to install toll gantries on I-684, which would force some residents to have to pay a toll without traveling to or from the state. Lamont introduced his latest plan for statewide tolls, including one in a remote stretch of I-684 in Greenwich that will force motorists to pay, despite being in the state for only about one mile. Motorists will have access to the New York State Thruway in Rockland County at the newly reconfigured Interchange 10, which will allow access at Route 9W and Hillside Avenue in South Nyack. The new traffic pattern permits riders of the Hudson Link bus service to use two new stops on South Franklin Street Extension, replacing the current stops at Clinton Avenue and South Broadway. More People Are Leaving NYC Than Any Other US City, New Report Says
The mass exodus of New Yorkers leaving New York City has hit a record pace. According to new reports, as many as 277 people are leaving New York City each day, leading all U.S. metro areas, and more than double the number recorded last year. Los Angeles and Chicago were second and third on the list, with 201 and 161 residents reportedly leaving each day. The data came from the 2018 Ceneus data on migration in the largest 100 cities in the country. Between July 2017 and July 2018, New York lost 180,306 people and gained 131,746 new residents.
