Man Tried To Shoot, Kill Three Juveniles In Area, Police Say
A 37-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting at three juveniles from his vehicle. Justin Haywood, of Denver, Colorado, was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 15, after Town of Poughkeepsie Police responded to the area of Innis Avenue near Arnold Road around 3:48 p.m., said Capt. Joseph Cavaliere of the town police department. The three juveniles were not hit by the bullets, but police did find a stray bullet in an area home, Cavaliere said. New York is taking measures to become the first state to ban the declawing of cats. The state Senate passed several bills this week, including one bill that is popular among animal welfare advocates that would ban inhumane declawing of felines. Northern Westchester Fencer Brings Home Gold at Junior Olympics
A teen from Northern Westchester has been awarded a gold medal for his fencing abilities at the 2019 Junior Olympic Fencing Championships in Denver. The fencer, Nickoloz Lortkipanidze of Mount Kisco, is a 16-year-old junior at Fox Lane High School in Bedford. He won gold in the Cadet event (17 and under) and placed 6th in the Juniors division (20 and under). The four-day tournament was held between Friday, Feb. 15 and Monday, Feb. 18 and involved upwards of 2,000 athletes from 44 states. A popular area priest is going back in the service. Father Bill Muhm, 61, who began his role as an administrator at the Church of the Most Precious Blood in Walden in Orange County late last year, has been given a new assignment by Pope Francis. Last month, Muhm was advised that the pope had chosen him to serve as an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of the Military Services.
