A beloved musician was killed in a crash and subsequent car fire in the region as good Samaritans desperately tried to save him. The Greene County incident happened at around 11 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, on State Route 9W in Catskill. New York State Police said Thomas Konow, age 61, of Claverack in Columbia County, was driving a GMC SUV southbound on SR 9W when the vehicle left the roadway, struck the wall of a railroad overpass, and caught fire. College Of Saint Rose Shutting Down After 103 Years
After more than a century in operations, Albany’s College of Saint Rose is permanently closing amid mounting financial struggles. The school’s board of trustees voted Thursday, Nov. 30, to shut down the college at the end of the Spring 2024 semester. “It is with a heavy heart that the Board decided to close the college at the end of this academic year,” Board Chair Jeffrey Stone said. A former Hudson Valley high school basketball standout has been chosen to take over as interim head coach of the Fordham University men's program. 19: College In Upstate NY Cutting 25 Academic Programs
Citing financial hardships brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, an upstate New York college will be cutting some faculty and programs to help balance their budget. The Board of Trustees at the College of Saint Rose in Albany approved a plan to reduce academic expenses by $5.97 million, eliminating 16 unique bachelor’s degrees, six master’s degree programs, and three certificate programs.
