A sheriff in New York is crediting recent jailhouse security upgrades for busting an inmate who allegedly tried smuggling in razor blades. The stomach-churning discovery was made Wednesday, March 20, inside the Albany County jail in Albany. Sheriff Craig Apple said the inmate was returning to the facility after pleading guilty to a weapon possession charge when he went through a body scanner meant to detect dangerous contraband. A prolific burglar who targeted nearly a dozen businesses in the region was caught with the help of a drone, police said. Albany County resident Jesse Stockman, age 37, of Colonie, was arrested Friday, Jan. 12, in connection with several break-ins at businesses in Colonie. Colonie Police were called at around 10 p.m. for a report of a commercial burglary in progress near Troy-Schenectady and Old Loudon roads. The culprit fled before officers arrived. A 23-year-old mother is facing an attempted murder charge after allegedly trying to drive into the Hudson River with her toddler son in the car. Police in Albany were called at around 5 a.m. Saturday, May 6, with reports that a car appeared to be driving into the water at a boat launch on Quay Street, according to Albany Police. NY Soldier Made Terroristic Threats At Army National Guard Base, Cops Say
An Army National Guard soldier in Upstate New York is facing charges after allegedly threatening violence at a military base in the Capital District. New York State Police said they began investigating after a concerned soldier from the Army National Guard Base in Latham contacted them on Saturday, July 23. Troopers determined that Thomas Greene, age 20, of Colonie, had made a terroristic threat while on the base and arrested him. Woman Killed In Fiery I-87 Crash Involving Drunk Driver, State Police Say
A woman was killed in a fiery two-vehicle crash involving a drunk driver on a stretch of I-87, New York State Police said. It happened at around 9:55 p.m. Saturday, May 28 on the northbound side in Albany County in the town of Colonie. A preliminary investigation determined that a 23-year-old New Jersey resident was operating a 2021 Tesla Model Y northbound on I-87 at a high rate of speed when he collided with the rear of a northbound 2018 Honda Civic, according to police. Man Charged In Fatal Stabbing Of Popular Chef In Capital District
Police have arrested a man accused of fatally stabbing an up-and-coming chef in the Capital District. Marquis Jackson, age 34, of Albany, was charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon, Albany Police said. Investigators believe Jackson stabbed 31-year-old Tyrome Wallace multiple times during an altercation inside a home on Washington Avenue Monday night, May 16.
