S'mores Started Massive Brush Fire Outside Hamptons, Officials Say A family attempting to make s’mores in their backyard accidentally sparked several brush fires that burned hundreds of acres on Long Island, authorities said. An investigation by Suffolk County Police Arson Section detectives determined that high winds spread embers from a Manorville backyard on Cozine Road after the family attempted to start a fire for s’mores, the agency announced Monday, March 10. “It’s believed strong winds spurred additional fires from embers leading to the brush fires,” Suffolk County Police said. New Tornado Confirmed Amid Record-Setting Year In NY: Here's When, Where A new tornado just touched down in New York in what has been a historic year for twisters in the state. There have now been 29 tornadoes in New York this year, breaking the record of 25 in 1992. A National Weather Service Storm Survey Team examined several reports of damage in Allegany County, in the towns of Wirt and Friendship, located near Buffalo, after the incident happened in the middle of the evening on Friday, Sept. 6. Severe Storms, Possible Tornadoes Fueled By Beryl's Remnants To Hit Northeast: Timing, Track Numerous clusters of severe thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and possible isolated tornadoes fueled by the remnants of Beryl are headed to the Northeast. Beryl, which made landfall along the Texas coast as a Category 1 hurricane on Monday, July 8, will move into upstate New York and northern New England on Wednesday, July 10, starting late in the afternoon and continuing overnight. The most severe storms on Wednesday are expected in areas marked in orange and yellow in the image above, mainly farther north and west of the I-95 corridor.
