A Long Island woman tried burning down multiple occupied homes in the Hamptons, a jury found.
Amanda Burnside, 42, of East Quogue, was found guilty of arson and related charges by a Suffolk County jury on Monday, Jan. 27.
Burnside attempted, but ultimately failed, to start fires at two occupied homes in Hampton Bays and succeeded in starting a fire at a third home that was occupied by four people in November 2023, according to the Suffolk County DA’s office.

A Dix Hills man is accused of exposing himself in a vehicle parked near an elementary school in Uniondale, police announced on Saturday, Jan. 18.
Willian Portillo Melara, 29, of 3 Foxridge Circle, was arrested following the incident, which occurred on Friday, Jan. 17, 2025, at 2:40 p.m., Nassau County police said.
Portillo Melara was reportedly sitting inside a white Honda Pilot parked on Dale Place near Smith Street, in the vicinity of the Smith Street School, when he was seen exposing and touching himself inappropriately by a 22-year-old woman, detectives said.

Two alleged armed robbers are behind bars months after a victim lost six figures in cash outside a Long Island bank.
Gloria Chamorro, 32, and Luis Lizardo, 45, both of Brooklyn, were arrested on suspicion of robbery and related charges Thursday, Dec. 19.
Nassau County Police said the duo approached a 36-year-old man outside the Bank of America on Jerusalem Boulevard in Hicksville shortly before 9 a.m. on July 29.
