A 50-year-old Connecticut father of four who served as one of New York's Finest during its most trying day has died. Richard "Rick" Stueber Jr. died on Dec. 10. His family did not disclose the cause of death. Stueber had been living in Stratford, CT but was born in Queens, New York, and had deep roots in Long Island law enforcement, according to his obituary shared by Riverhead News and Riverhead Local. Guard Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Inmate At Suffolk County Jail Indicted By Grand Jury
A corrections officer at a Long Island jail will stand trial for allegedly sexually assaulting an inmate. Jason Middleton, age 35, of Central Islip, was indicted by a Suffolk County grand jury on Friday, Oct. 11, stemming from an alleged incident at the county jail in Riverhead. An investigation found that between April and September 2023, Middleton escorted an inmate into a utility walkway between jail cells where he knew was hidden from security camera view. Wanted Driver Drags, Injures Deputy Following Traffic Stop In Bohemia, Police Say
A Long Island man wanted by police tried fleeing a traffic stop, injuring a sheriff’s deputy in the process, authorities said. The incident happened in Bohemia on Lincoln Avenue, at around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28. Suffolk County Sheriff’s officials said the deputy stopped 37-year-old Christopher Brown, of Holbrook, and informed him he was wanted on an arrest warrant out of Amityville. The warrant stemmed from charges of driving without a license and displaying illegal plates. Investigators are hoping newly released images will lead to the identification of another victim in the Gilgo Beach serial murders. On Long Island, the Gilgo Beach Task Force distributed facial reconstructions of who they've long referred to as "Asian Doe" during a press conference in Brentwood on Monday morning, Sept. 16. 7 Charged In Overnight Sobriety Checkpoint In Central Islip
Seven people are facing charges after an overnight sobriety checkpoint on Long Island. Police officers from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Highway SAFE-T Team (Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement Team) conducted the joint operation in the LIRR parking lot in Central Islip located at 870 Suffolk Ave., from 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30 until 2:35 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31.
