'Run, Don't Walk': New Restaurant On Long Island Off To Sizzling Start
A new restaurant on Long Island promising a fresh take on Greek cuisine is off to a sizzling start.
Twisted Greek – located in East Northport at 1972 Jericho Turnpike – opened in late May 2024.
Its menu boasts a number of Greek-inspired offerings, including pork, chicken, or beef and lamb gyros with pita bread, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and tzatziki sauce.
Diners can also opt for the chicken or pork souvlaki – small pieces of meat and vegetables grilled in a skewer – or the loukaniko, a type of Greek sausage flavored with orange peel, fennel seed, and other dried herbs.

Jose Martinez-Vazquez, age 25, of Port Jefferson Station, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Suffolk County Court on Thursday, July 25, in the death of Benjamin Flores-Mendez.
It came months after his girlfriend, Tiffany Diaz-Cabrera, age 21, of Port Jefferson Station, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the same case.

Full Closures Planned For Portion Of Sunrise Highway
Scheduled highway closures could cause delays for Long Island drivers in the coming days.
In Suffolk County, all westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway (Route 27) are slated to close nightly in the town of Babylon beginning on Monday, July 22.
From 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., lanes will close Monday, July 22, Tuesday, July 23, and Wednesday, July 24 between exits 40 and 39. Closures will occur again on Thursday, July 25, and Friday, July 26, between exits 38 and 39.

Huntington Station Man Killed In Head-On Aquebogue Crash
One person was killed in a head-on crash on Long Island.
It happened around 11:45 a.m. Friday, July 19, in Suffolk County on Main Road, east of Union Avenue in Aquebogue.
A 2018 BMW, operated by New York City resident Anthony Croce, age 65, of Brooklyn, collided head-on with a 2002 Nissan, operated by Matthew Schramm, age 67, of Huntington Station, Riverhead Police said.
Schramm, who suffered extensive injuries, was rushed to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

West Nile Virus Found In Mosquitoes On Long Island; Here's How To Protect Yourself
Health officials on Long Island are urging people to take precautions after testing of mosquitoes confirmed the presence of West Nile Virus.
Twelve mosquito samples were positive for the virus following testing done at locations around Suffolk County, according to county Health Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott.
The samples were collected on Sunday, July 2, and Monday, July 3, in Northport, Melville, West Babylon, Lindenhurst, Holbrook, Holtsville, North Patchogue, Farmingville, and Manorville.
It brings the total number of positive mosquito samples this year to 16.
