Fire Destroys Elmont Senior Center: Nassau County Arson Bomb Squad
A fire destroyed an abandoned senior center on Foster Meadow Lane in Elmont early Saturday, Dec. 14, police announced. Officers and firefighters responded to a blaze at 1888 Foster Meadow Lane at 12:01 a.m., according to the Nassau County Arson Bomb Squad. The structure was fully engulfed when firefighters from Elmont and multiple surrounding departments arrived, investigators said. The Nassau County Fire Marshal and the Arson Bomb Squad were called to the scene as crews worked to extinguish the flames. A volunteer firefighter from Long Island is facing charges after allegedly setting a brush fire. Suffolk County Police said Jonathan Quiles, age 20, intentionally set the fire in a wooded area on Mount Vernon Avenue in Medford at about 3:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12. An industrial business on Long Island was gutted by an early-morning fire. Multiple agencies were called to Huntington Station for a fire at the Four-Way Pallet Corporation, located on East 2nd Street, shortly after 1 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27.
