When most people think of Manhattan, they're not picturing scenic waterfalls. Yet, one is now back in action after several years of inactivity. Pair Of Shark Sightings Reported At Rockaway Beach
Governor Kathy Hochul announced that state parks would be increasing their shark surveillance capabilities after two shark sightings were reported at at Rockaway Beach, causing closures. The first set of jaws was spotted at just after noon on Thursday, July 11. According to a post by the New York Police Department’s Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry, the shark was captured by surveillance drones - Rockaway Beach at 86th Street. 5 Onboard Raft In Distress Rescued On Long Island Sound In Riverhead
Five occupants of a raft in distress with insufficient safety gear were rescued on the Long Island Sound. At about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, June 23, the Riverhead Police Department received a call from someone who stated he was on a raft with four other people in the Long Island Sound off Reeves Beach and needed assistance. The person reported the five were fishing when the current and wind began blowing them further away from the beach, and they could not return.
