Several engineer soldiers with the New York State National Guard, including some stationed in Northern Westchester, have been sent to help southern communities bounce back from the damage caused by Hurricane Helene. A total of 20 engineer soldiers, including some stationed at Camp Smith in Cortlandt, have been deployed to South Carolina to support the recovery efforts, Gov. 12 Rescued From Sinking 58-Foot Boat In Point Lookout
Emergency responders were able to rescue 12 people from a 58-foot that was sinking on Long Island. The incident happened just before 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27, in Point Lookout. The vessel was about a half-mile offshore when it began taking on water, according to Nassau County Police. All passengers were safely brought back to shore. No injuries were reported. Car Pulled From Waters Of Marina On Long Island
Firefighters, a dive team, and tactical rescue workers were on standby after a car ended up submerged in the water of a Long Island marina. It happened on Saturday, July 13 in Islip, according to the Islip Fire Department. At approximately 5:20 a.m., the department was notified that there was a car in the waters of Islip Marina, located at the end of Maple Street off Bayview Ave. The department responded, calling a nearby dive team in the event that passengers were still in the car.
