'Mass Casualty' Declared After School Bus Crash Injures Multiple People On Long Island

Several people were injured following a school bus crash on Long Island.

The wreck happened in North Lindenhurst, on Sunrise Highway near North Delaware Avenue, at around 5:15 p.m. Monday, March 3.

A total of eight people were taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, according to preliminary radio traffic. Their ages and the extent of their injuries were not immediately clear.

The scene was declared a “mass casualty incident” by Lindenhurst Fire officials.

Details surrounding the crash, including the number of vehicles involved, were not immediately available.

Sunrise Highway remained closed in both directions near the scene as of 6 p.m., according to the New York State Department of Transportation.
